Outline of the Dakar 2010

Like the previous edition, Dakar 2010 will once again be held in Argentina and Chile. It will overlap with the 200th Anniversary of both countries since their independence. The course is again designed in a loop; all entrants start from Buenos Aires, drive north, and drive in an anti-clockwise direction back to Buenos Aires. The total distance is approximately 8,600km. The Special Stage (SS) that will be timed will account for 5,200km. The road surface just after starting out from Buenos Aires will be rather firm and solid. Then the entrants will proceed over the Andes Mountain ranges, and then into the Atacama Desert in Chile, considered to be the toughest part of this rally. There will be five stages all told in the Atacama Desert, almost all of them scheduled to become the SS. They will then drive towards north to Iquique, and spend a rest day at Antofagasta, a coastal city. After returning to Argentina again, they will drive over various continental terrains, including dunes, mountainous courses, and muddy deserts.

The rally will be held from the 1st to the 17th of January. Dakar 2010 will again be a race in which the durability of both participants and vehicles is tested.
