Nov 14, 2013

Hino Motors, Ltd. (hereinafter, "Hino") will exhibit six vehicles including a world-premiere small-sized EV community bus concept, plug-in hybrid bus with external power supply function, and large tour bus equipped with advanced safety technology at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show 2013 to be held at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo from November 22 (Friday) to December 1 (Sunday) (Organizer: Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association).

Our theme for the exhibition is "Transporting Your Tomorrow Worldwide". We will introduce our vehicles, which carry objects and passengers in order to support the lives of people around the world, in an easy-to-understand manner to visitors who otherwise have little chance to encounter commercial vehicles. We will also propose the future state of environmentally-friendly commercial vehicles.

Hino Exhibition Overview

We will hold our exhibit in Tokyo Big Sight East Hall 1.
All exhibition vehicles are reference exhibits.

1.HINO Poncho Mini (small-sized EV community bus concept)

Hino's small-sized EV community bus concept.
This vehicle's compact body gives it the agility to maneuver through the city. It runs silently on an electric motor, producing zero emissions. Its front-wheel drive system is powered by a compact powertrain unique to EVs and a flat, ultra-low floor has been realized by housing the battery under the floor. Boarding is easy, even with a wheelchair or stroller, and the vehicle can easily store a large volume of luggage.

2. HINO Melpha Plug-In Hybrid (equipped with external power supply function)

A plug-in hybrid bus based on the mid-size HINO Melpha bus.
We have combined a high capacity lithium-ion battery with the hybrid systems we have cultivated over the years to create a plug-in hybrid bus that can be charged externally. It can run on EV drive mode in urban areas and for short-distance travel and on hybrid drive mode for long-distance travel and climbing. The external power supply function also allows the vehicle to supply power to shelters, etc. in the event of a disaster. The exhibition vehicle is a "mobile health clinic" which, under normal circumstances, functions as a clinic contributing to community medical care. It can also serve as an emergency power source, particularly during times of disaster. The vehicle can be refueled to provide continuous power for long periods of time - with a full tank of diesel (100L), this vehicle can supply enough power to light a gymnasium for around 30 hours.
