Hino Motors releases its FY2005 ELV recycling performance based on the Automobile Recycling Law
Hino Motors Ltd. (“Hino”) has released its performance in the recycling and treatment of ELVs in FY2005 (April 2005 – March 2006) based on the Automobile Recycling Law*1.The law stipulates the obligation of automakers and others for the acceptance, recycling and proper disposition of three items, namely, automobile shredder residue (ASR), airbags and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) generated by ELVs.
Hino is promoting the appropriate and effective treatment and recycling of these three items by consigning ASR to Toyotsu Recycling Corporation and the treatment of airbags and CFCs to the Japan Auto Recycling Partnership (a limited liability intermediary corporation).
The company’s performance in FY2005 indicates 6,359 units of ASR (accepted volume: 2,181.5 tons), 116 units of airbags and 1,931 units of CFCs (accepted volume: 938.1kg).
The recycling rate for ASR was 48%, achieving the 30% statutory standard for FY2005. In addition, the recycling rate for airbags was 94%, a level exceeding the 85% statutory standard. The 938.1kg of accepted CFCs were subjected to appropriate breakdown treatment.
Moreover, the total amount of expenses required for recycling these three specified items was 178,237,000 yen while the total amount of deposits received from the Fund Management Institution was 74,767,000 yen, posting a net loss overall of 103,470,000 yen.
Hino will continue its efforts to effectively promote automobile recycling with the aim of realizing a recycling society based on the spirit of the Automobile Recycling Law and the Hino Global Environment Charter.
