Hino Motors receives Good Design Award for the large-sized touring coach Hino S’elega
Hino Motors, Ltd. (“Hino”) was granted the Good Design Award* 2005 for the large-sized touring coach Hino S’elega, which was released on the market in August of this year in its first complete model change in fifteen years.The new model Hino S’elega expresses the joy and excitement of travel in an innovative style distinguished by original full-surround glass windows providing seat areas with a sense of openness, ornamental lighting that represents a further evolution of the previous model as well as accent pillars adopted for the new model and other characteristics in external appearance based on design concepts of overflowing vitality and hospitality in a distinctive style that makes it possible to recognize at a glance that it is a Hino vehicle.
The interior features a roundish entrance for uninhibited ingress and egress, dome ceiling and LED fiber lighting that excite tourers’ imagination of the new journey ahead, full flat floor securing safe movement inside the vehicle and meter and switch layout taking driver operability into account, creating as a design friendly to all passengers incorporating aspects of entertainment as well as universal design concepts in abundance, leading the way to high-quality bus travel.
The award is thought to commend Hino for its stance toward manufacturing of “a dedication to the production of touring coaches that bring pleasure and good spirits to all people involved” by creating new appeal in buses.
In addition to higher environmental performance including compliance with the New Long-term Emission Regulations of 2005, the most recent emission regulations, the Hino S’elega also boasts of improved safety performance in terms of both active and passive safety.
Hino will continue to develop vehicles that are friendly to both people and the environment through persistent effort and state-of-the-art technology.
* Comprehensive design assessment and endorsement program initially established by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now known as the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) in 1957.
It is now sponsored by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO) and it assesses design not only in terms of its beauty in form but also quality excellence, ease of use and good balance as a product.
