HINO 600 running on stage

Stage 2 was from Yanbu to AlUla. A 400 km SS (competition stage) was set on the route that leaves Yanbu along the Red Sea and enters the inland mountainous area. HINO TEAM SUGAWARA's HINO 600 Series (Teruhito Sugawara/Hirokazu Somemiya/Yuji Mochizuki) completed this endurance stage, which alternated between high-speed sandy pistes and rough roads, without any troubles, finishing in 111th place overall in the four-wheel division/10th in the truck class, 48 minutes and 36 seconds behind the top, car #609 Gert Huzink (Renault C460 Hybrid). As a result, their cumulative ranking through Stage 2 is 109th overall in the four-wheel division/9th in the truck class.

The SS (Special Stage) start was located 105km northwest via liaison (transit section) from the Yanbu start camp. The route headed west toward AlUla, winding its way through canyons. While there were some wide sections where speed could be maintained, most of the course consisted of rough pistes following wadis (dry riverbeds) through the mountains. In twisty sections, the road was narrow, making overtaking difficult unless the vehicle ahead pulled aside. Between the 306km and 318km points, the courses for motorcycles and four-wheelers were separated. Following the previous day, HINO TEAM SUGAWARA maintained a stable pace while being careful of punctures from stones. HINO600 successfully arrived at Alura's SS goal.

On the 6th, it's the loop course again. A 422km competition is scheduled based in AlUla.

Teruhito Sugawara
While there were places where we could increase speed, rough roads continued for long stretches, and we saw sharp stones, so we drove carefully to avoid punctures. In terms of pace, trucks are faster where there are large stones, but when the stones become smaller, the four-wheelers catch up, so there was a lot of overtaking back and forth. The vehicle had no problems. It was a smooth day.

Hirokazu Somemiya
There were moments when our visibility was impaired by the dust kicked up by vehicles ahead, but the navigation itself wasn't particularly difficult, and we cleared all the waypoints (indicated in the roadbook for passage). I was shaken all day, so my neck and shoulders are tight, but I'm okay.

Yuji Mochizuki
Basically, it was a day of wadis. There was no overheating of the service brakes. My body is tired, but there were no troubles. Some bolts loosened in various places due to vibrations, but the mechanics will inspect them.

*Rankings are provisional as of 3:00 AM Japan time.
