History & Race Report
In 1991, Hino Motors became the first Japanese truck maker to compete in the Dakar Rally. The race is renowned as the “world’s most grueling rally” and some years as few as 20.5% of competitors reach the finish line. The Hino team has completed the rally consecutively since first taking part.
In 1997, Hino’s team stunned the world with an unprecedented sweep of the top three spots in the overall truck category. Hino subsequently has logged many other high-ranking results including three runner-up finishes as it has continued to be a top contender in the Truck Division. From 1996 to 2002, Hino reigned as the victor of the 10-liter Class. The class was abolished before being reinstated in 2005, after which Hino duly took the title. Hino reigned as the victor of the 10 liter class from 2010 to 2021 rally and the class was abolished again.
